about me

I'm a Chicago-based theater director, teaching artist, and sound designer. â€‹

As a director, I believe in a non-hierarchical facilitation style. The director is the least skilled actor and the most ignorant designer. To create anything, I need an ensemble of talented collaborators. My role as an artistic leader is to remove barriers, so that everyone else can do their best work.

As a teaching artist, I believe that learning emerges at the intersection of safety and discomfort. When we try something new, it is rarely comfortable. However, knowing that, at the end of the day, our peers and mentors care for us can give us the space to lean into discomfort. I expect my students to routinely fail as part of their growth, and as an educator I try to model the same vulnerability that I expect from them.

As a sound designer, I am interested in cultural and musical history. I'm highly influenced by the compostional practices of hip-hop. Techniques like sampling allow me to collaborate with some of the greatest musicians of all-time, while also creating a unique sonic world.
